The Texas Association of Polygraph Examiners consists of Texas licensed polygraph examiners who represent law enforcement government and private sectors who are dedicated to seek out the truth. T.A.P.E. strives to improve the qualifications of its members through setting high standards of professional and ethical conduct, education and achievement. T.A.P.E. offers comprehensive continuing educational programs, referrals and newsletters. Membership is available to all individuals who meet the qualifications, which are, outlined under "Types of Memberships" yearly membership dues are $50.00. (See Membership link) There is a license requirement in the State of Texas that regulates all persons who purport to be able to detect deception or to verify truth through the use of instrumentation or the use of a mechanical device. (See License Qualifications link) State Of Texas Required Minimum Instrumentation Any instrument used to test or question individuals for the purpose of detecting deception or verify truth of statements shall record visually, permanently, and simultaneously: (1) A subjects cardiovascular pattern and (2) A subjects respiratory pattern. Patterns of other physiological changes in addition to (1) and (2) may also be recorded. The use of any instrument or device to detect deception or to verify truth of statements which does not meet these minimum instrumentation requirements is hereby prohibited and the operation or use of such equipment shall be subject to penalties and may be enjoined in the manner hereinafter provided.
